About this tool

A Pomodoro timer breaks your work into focused 25-minute sessions called “pomodoros,” each followed by a short 5-minute break, with a longer 15–30 minute break after every four sessions. The method, created by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, uses the timer to turn an open-ended task into a series of small, finite sprints — which makes starting easier and helps you protect your attention from interruptions.

This online Pomodoro timer is ready to go: pick Focus, Short Break, or Long Break, press Start, and the ring counts down while the tab title shows the time remaining so you can keep working in another window. When a session ends it chimes, logs the pomodoro, and moves you to the right break automatically if you turn on auto-start. You can change the focus length, both break lengths, and how often the long break appears to match the way you actually work.

Everything runs in your browser. Your settings are saved only in your own device's local storage, nothing is uploaded or tracked, and there is no sign-up, install, or paywall. Keyboard shortcuts make it fast — press Space to start or pause and R to reset — and the timer keeps accurate time even when the tab is in the background.

Common uses

  • Beating procrastination by committing to just one pomodoro to get started.
  • Structuring deep-work sessions while writing, coding, or designing.
  • Time-boxing chores, admin, or email so they don't expand to fill the day.
  • Running focus sprints for remote teams and body-doubling sessions.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Pomodoro Technique?+

It's a time-management method where you work in focused intervals — traditionally 25 minutes — separated by short 5-minute breaks. After four intervals you take a longer 15–30 minute break. Each 25-minute work block is called a “pomodoro.” The short, fixed sessions make it easier to start and to stay focused.

How long is a Pomodoro session?+

A standard pomodoro is 25 minutes of focused work followed by a 5-minute break, with a 15–30 minute long break after every fourth session. These are defaults, not rules — this timer lets you set any focus and break length that suits your task.

Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?+

Yes. The countdown is based on the actual clock, not a tab-by-tab counter, so it stays accurate even when the tab is in the background. The remaining time also appears in the browser tab title, and it chimes when a session ends.

Is this Pomodoro timer free?+

Completely free, with no sign-up, no install, and no limits. You can use it as much as you like.

Are my settings and data private?+

Yes. The timer runs entirely in your browser. Your durations and preferences are stored only in your device's local storage — nothing is uploaded, logged, or shared.

Can I change the work and break lengths?+

Yes. Open “Customize durations” to set the focus length, the short and long break lengths, and how many focus sessions happen before a long break. Your choices are saved for next time.
