About this tool

An X (Twitter) character counter shows you, in real time, how your text measures up against X's limits as you type. It counts against the 280-character tweet limit and the 160-character bio limit at once, shows your word count, and tells you how many tweets your text would need if you wanted to split it into a thread.

It's built for the moment before you post: paste a draft and instantly see how much room you have left, with a clear meter that turns amber as you approach a limit and red when you go over. No more posting something only to find it's three characters too long, or writing a bio that gets cut off.

Like our other utility tools, the X character counter runs entirely in your browser. Your text is never uploaded, logged, or stored, so it's safe for unpublished drafts. It's free and needs no sign-up. Note that on X, links always count as 23 characters and many emoji count as two.

Examples

Input

A 300-character draft tweet.

Output

Shows 300 characters, 20 over the 280 tweet limit, and that it would need 2 tweets to fit.

Counts run live in your browser as you type.

Common uses

  • Checking a tweet fits in 280 characters before posting.
  • Writing an X bio that stays within the 160-character limit.
  • Seeing how many tweets a long piece of text would need as a thread.
  • Counting words and characters for any short-form post.
