About this tool

A tip calculator works out exactly how much to tip on a bill and what the total comes to, so you never have to do mental math at the table. Enter the bill amount, choose a tip percentage and, if you are dining with others, the number of people splitting the check — the tip, the grand total and the per-person share update instantly.

The math is simple but easy to fumble after a meal: the tip is the bill multiplied by your chosen percentage, the total is the bill plus that tip, and the per-person amount is the total divided evenly across the group. Common tip rates are 15% for adequate service, 18% for good service and 20% or more for excellent service, but you can type any percentage you like.

Use it at restaurants, bars, cafes, for delivery drivers, hairdressers, taxis or any service where a gratuity is customary. It is handy for splitting a group dinner fairly down to the cent, or for checking that an auto-added service charge matches what you intended to leave. Everything is calculated in your browser — no bill details are uploaded, logged or stored anywhere.

Examples

Input

$50 bill, 18% tip, split between 2 people

Output

Tip $9.00 · total $59.00 · per person $29.50

Input

$120 bill, 20% tip, split between 4 people

Output

Tip $24.00 · total $144.00 · per person $36.00

Input

$28.40 bill, 15% tip, 1 person

Output

Tip $4.26 · total $32.66 · per person $32.66

With a single diner the per-person amount simply equals the total.

Frequently asked questions

Is this tip calculator free?+

Yes. It is completely free to use with no sign-up, no limits and no hidden charges.

How much should I tip?+

In the US, 15% is standard for adequate service, 18% for good service and 20% or more for excellent service. This calculator lets you enter any percentage, so you can match local custom or the quality of service you received.

How is the tip calculated?+

The tip is the bill amount multiplied by the tip percentage, divided by 100. The total is the bill plus the tip, and the per-person amount is the total divided by the number of people splitting it.

Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?+

Either is acceptable, but many people tip on the pre-tax subtotal. Enter whichever figure you prefer as the bill amount, and the calculator will tip on that number.

Is my bill data private?+

Yes. Every calculation runs locally in your browser. Your bill amount, tip percentage and group size are never sent to a server, logged or stored.
